What Kind Of Food Should Be Avoided When Having Diverticulosis And PAD?

I had severe rectal bleeding. Diagnosed as diverticulosis. Two blood transfusions were needed. I am home with the instructions of no nuts, seeds, popcorn, strawberries. What about the seeds in canned tomatoes, raisins, or any other things I should avoid. I also have PAD.

I assume you were in the hospital with acute diverticulitis, which indicated that the diverticuli got infected. Diverticulosis is when the pouches are present, but are not causing any problems.
After being hospitalized with acute diverticulitis with bleeding requiring blood transfusions, you should be on a bland diet (without roughage, which means no high fiber) for 4 weeks. You should avoid all seeds, including those on strawberries and tomatoes. Raisins are ok AFTER the 4 weeks as the skin of fruits and vegetables adds too much bulk (or roughage), at least initially.
Always avoid all nuts and seeds, also avoid corn and popcorn.
From my experience patients also have flare ups if the eat rice and beans, so try to avoid this if possible.
After the four weeks, slowly add more fiber to your diet as fiber will help avoid constipation which can sometimes cause bloody stools as well.
The diverticular diet is different than the diet for PAD (peripheral arterial disease), for which low fat and low salt diet is recommended in addition to taking any antihypertensive and cholesterol lowering medications.
Best regards
