What Is Your Opinion About A Child Having Accidental Bowel Movements In Pants And Being Prescribed Muscle Stimulant With A Laxative?

Hi my daughter is 8 years old and has been having bowel problems, accidents in her pants with an odor I have never smelled before. her pediatrician today put her on a muscle stimulant with a laxative saying she has an underdeveloped intestinal system with muscle weakness. can you give me your opinion or more info on this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Accident in pant are likely to be due to underlying constipation and overflow incontinence.
I would suggest a thorough evaluation by Pediatric Surgeon who would preferably want to do a digital rectal examination to rule out fecal loaded rectum and constipation as cause of symptom.

Take care
