What Is The Treatment To Reduce The Cholesterol Levels?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...I just found out my cholesterol went up 34 points in 90 days, even after I exercised more and cut out high fat foods. I'm a 50 year old woman who recently went through menopause. My doctor wants me to go on Crestor but I am thinking about trying red yeast rice first. Is this a good idea?

Hello and thank you for using HCM.I carefully read your question and I understand your concern. You shoud not worry. I'll try to explain you something and give you my opinion.

You should know that cholesterol target levels depends on some factors like your age and other associated rics factors like hypertension , diabetes , smoking and hereditary history of high cholesterol levels.

Depending on other risc factors we judge on target cholesterol.Yoir normal values should be below 180 mg / dl for total cholesterol and below 130 mg / dl for ldl col.

If you have e tried to cut high cholesterol food and do regular physical activity than it is posible that you have a hereditary basis of high cholesterol. This means that it is mandatory to start medical treatment.

The rice won't resolve anything and it is not a good idea. Now you have entered in menopause and all the metabolism changes.
So, if you have values above the target that I mention before, if I was your treating doctor I would start medical treatment like crestor.

Hope Iwas helpfull.
Best regards.
