What Is The Treatment For Ulcerative Colitis?

Hi, I am 20 year old female, my mother has been diagnosed with a severe form of ulcerative colitis and she ended up with colectomy I want to know what is my risk to have the disease? And does the risk differ if I have been born before she got the disease? (I will be happy when doctors talk with numbers) Thanks

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Ulcerative colitis is hereditary disease. It can run in family.
So you are at risk of development of Ulcerative colitis in future.
Risk varies from 10-15 %. So over all, during your entire lifetime, risk of development of Ulcerative colitis in you is 10-15%.
And no matter if you are born before or after your mother's Ulcerative colitis.
Risk remains same whether she has developed Ulcerative colitis after your birth.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
