What Is The Treatment For Sore And Swollen Throat?
I woke up with no voice 17 days ago. 16 days ago saw the doc and was given antibiotic, steroid shot, and albuterol refilled because I could feel it was already in my chest. I finished the antibiotic, but since then I ve lived on cough drops for throat and cough relief. Today I went to the doctor again thinking I still had a throat infection because swallowing was so painful and my tongue felt like it was too big for my throat. Labs today were negative for strep and mono. She gave me another steroid shot and a new antibiotic. My question....my sore throat pain and feeling of swollen tongue was Gone in about 2 hours after the shot today....is it possible I was having an allergic reaction to the cough drops I ve been living on because of the pesky cough? It is almost scary if that was my problem.
Allergy to cough medication is unusual but yes, there could be allergy if you are exposed to dust, smoke or pollen. Taking antibiotics would not help. Try steam inhalations with tincture of benzoin and avoid straining your voice, caffeinated drinks and fried foods.
