I went to the doctor for a really bad sore throat 14 days ago. Had white stuff on my tonsils. The doctor just gave my 5 days of Cephalexin(500 mg) every 6 hours, and some ibuprofen. The antibiotics worked well and i felt better after the second day of taking it. Felt fine till last Wednesday. Now its back and it s worse because my Tonsils and Lyphnodes are swollen to the point where its very hard to breathe. And still very painful. The inside of my ears, my throat and my neck is in a lot of pain. Last friday i went back to the doctor and she took a strep culture and told me my throat look better and she would get back to me on monday for the results. She didn t give me antibiotics again. My Neck and tonsils did not swell till a couple hours i got back from the clinic. The ibuprofen seem to not be working anymore because the intense amount of pain is not going away. How long will this take to get better?
the way you are explaining , it seems to be a case of acute tonsillitis and antinbiotics should be taken for 5-7 days but also differential diagnosis peritonsillar abcess should be kept in mind. if there is an abcess collection, it should be drained , and tonsillectomy can be considered. wait for culture report. continue taking antibiotics and analgesics
