What Is The Treatment For Nausea, dizziness, hot Flashes And Then Freezing Cold?

Hi, I have been taking Venlafaxine ER for about 6 months now, I am up to 225 mgs daily. I am having extreme night sweats, waking up with my hair and body soaking wet and shivering cold. During the day for the past 2 weeks I m having hot flashes and then freezing cold. I am nauseated, light headed and dizzy (only for the past to weeks). I thought I had the flu but my nasal and blood tests were negative. In 1996 I was Diagnosed with Ulcerative colitus but it was in remission and the way I feel is just the same except for the profuse night sweats and the hot/cold. I am a 55 year old female but I had a complete hysterectomy at age 24 and feel that it can t be hormonal. I have an appt with a GI specialist on 1/23. Please help, I feel terrible Thank you, Stacey

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Venlafaxine E R i.e. venlafaxine hydrochloride is mainly used to treat depression . Its dose varies 75 mg maximum up to 225-375 mg daily in divided dosage. However there are many side effects of Venlafaxine as NAUSEA SWEATING , VOMITING, DIZZINESS, FATIGUE , INCREASED CHOLESTEROL CONCENTRATIONS BLOOD DYSCRAISA .
In your case as you are also having sweating , nausea , dizziness , light headed .
However orthostatic hypotension may be the reason of dizziness in your case because this is a side effects of venlafaxine ( orthoatatic hypotension ).
Hot flashes and feeling of cold may be due to anxiety or depression .
Hormonal imbalance may be the another cause of these symptoms ,so get in blood for estrogen and androgen level.
In my opinion consult your psychiatrist ( who advised venla) and there after deal as mentioned above.
Good luck.
