My son s tongue was red and look like ulcer growing on the tip, both sides and underneath of it. This condition had been on and off for a few years already, sometimes it subdue but it came back again. I had took him to see doctors, but everytime they said that they cannot find the cause and just give me an oral cream to apply, it just help a little bit. My son is ten years old, 28 kg, 140 cm, have sinus.

Hi.
I've gone through your query. I can understand your anxiety.

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis also known as canker sores is the most common cause of recurrent mouth ulcers in children and adults.

Factors that aggravate the ulcers include smoking, allergy to specific food items, stress, vitamin B12, folic acid & iron deficiencies, any kind of local trauma or accidental bitting.

In your son's case, it could've resulted from dieterty deficiency of vitamins or sharp teeth or any kind of allergens.

I advice you to,
1. Avoid spicy and sour foods for fast healing of ulcers
2. Have plenty of oral fluids.
3. Regular rinsing of mouth with warm salted water & maintain good oral hygiene
4. Take analgesics like paracetamol & high dose of Vitamin B Complex will be definitely helpful
5. Apply antiseptic gel or benzocaine (topical anesthetic) to the ulcers

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
