What Is The Treatment For Hemorrhoids?

My husband is 58. He has hemorrids and itching with bright red blood discharge during his bowel movements. He is using preperation H but it is not helping. He has a very stressful job and often complains that stress causes the anal itching to get worse, but he has also lost about 10 to 15 pounds without trying. There is history of prostate cancer in his family and he is worried this could be the problem. He does not have any urinary problems though. He has given up eating his beloved Hot sauce to see if this helps, but no relief so far. He does not drink a lot of water and he does consume about 2 or 3 alcoholic beverages per day. Could this be something related to liver disease? Also, do you think sitz baths would help and should we add either Epsom salts or baking soda to the warm water? His last colonoscopy was done 4 years ago and was told to repeat it in 10 years. He had no polyps.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I appreciate your concern
Looking at your description that could be hemorrhoids or fissure in anus
I would advise him to reduce your body weight if you are obese, you can do it with dietary restrictions and regular physical exercises

To be on safe side I would advise you to consult your doctor for per rectal examination and an colonscopy if need be.

Meanwhile try to avoid constipation by taking laxatives or stool softening agents like liquid paraffin or lactulose
Lignocaine ointment for pain and burning sensation
Pantoprazole or rabeprazole as an antiacidity medicines
Have pots of fruits and vegetables with dietary fibers
sitz bath will definitely help him and it can be related to liver disease as well if you can revert back to me with my answers, I will be able to help you in best possible way

Hope this helps you
wish you good health.
