my husband was recently told by his doctor not to take any advil, tylenol , etc as his last blood test showed an issue and they want to re do the test. But tonight he has a very bad headache and we need some advise as to what he can do to relieve it. He has soaked in a hot bath. it didn't really help.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By history and description, possibility of migraine like headache is more.
It is better not to take painkiller drugs regularly as they can damage liver and kidneys.
So tell your husband to follow these steps for better symptomatic relief in headache.
1. Avoid stress and tension, be relax and calm.
2. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep your self hydrated.
3. Avoid excessive sun exposure.
4. Avoid fasting and take your meals timely.
5. Take propranolol and flunarizine combination at night time before bed.
6. Take sound sleep of 6-8 hours.
Don't worry, he will be alright with all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your husband. Thanks.
