What Is The Treatment For Fever And Sore Throat?

I have been ill with what seems to be a viral infection for a few days (symptoms including terrible sore throat, spikes of high fever, nasal congestion, and phlegm). After two days of not being able to eat well, having also taken over-the-counter cold remedies, I had sudden onset of sharp, gripey abdominal pains. Although the other symptoms of my virus appear to be improving, this seems to be persisting. Day 5 now. I'm 44 yrs old, otherwise generally healthy.

Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic

I have read your query and understand your concern, yes the symptoms do suggest a viral upper respiratory tract infection. It takes 7-8 days for clearing of symptoms and certain medications and precautions speed up the recovery,I advice my patients with similar symptoms to:

1. Drink warm water and do gargling by mixing warm water with salt 3-4 times a day ,if throat pain persists you can buy tantum gargles(combination of antiseptic and anesthetic)/ betadine gargles.

2. Avoid unhealthy, oily and cold foodstuffs.

3. Eat well to avoid feeling weak and to improve your immunity.

4.Tab.Paracetamol will help for reducing fever and pain relief.

5.Nasal congestion can be effectively reduced by occasional use of decongestants like otrivin nasal spray.Ocean nasal saline spray prevents drying of nose.

4. Take a course of antibiotics like tab. Augmentin for 5 days which will help reduce the infection reducing sore throat along with expectorant like TusQ-X+ for clearing the pent up secretions.

5. If still the cough is not relieved its essential to visit your nearest physician for an expert opinion about getting an chest X-ray done to rule out any lung pathology as it may well be the possibility.

Hope I have answered your query.
