What Is The Treatment For Extreme Tiredness And Headache?

My granddaughter complains constantly of being tired, having a headache and just never seems to feel good. This however is nothing new. She will be 15 this weekend and we have just played it off as being bored and not getting enough nightly sleep because she is texting on her phone most of the night. Within the last 2 to 3 weeks she has found a tick latched on to her upper thigh, left leg upper thigh. And a week later she finds a second tick latched on at the same identical place. She frantically pulled the first one off. It scared her so much. But she let her Dad take the second one off. There is a red spot on her thigh. She is not feeling well tonight and seems to running about a degree of fever. We are not sure what is wrong with her. Our weather has been changing so lately. It could be an allergy or something. But if you could tell us some REAL sure tell tale symptoms to look for, we would be most appreciative.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would like to explain that the tick latched and the fever are objective signs, which raise high suspicions for an infection (such as Lyme disease or rickettsial infection ).

The other symptoms (headache, fatigue) may be also related to the above disorder.
But sleep deprivation (a bad sleep hygiene, as you refer) or a metabolic disorder (like chronic anemia, etc.) could also cause this symptomatology.

I recommend consulting with the GP for a careful physical examination, a chest x ray and some lab blood tests:

1- complete blood count
2- PCR, sedimentation rate
3- kidney and liver function tests
4- blood electrolytes
5- specific infectious diseases tests for Lyme disease or rickettsial infection

If all the above mentioned tests result normal, I would advise to regulate her sleeping regime and just use some painkillers for some days.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,

Dr. Aida
