Noted the history of diarrhea on and off for 5 days, lots of gas, that spreads to chest and on left, center and sometimes on the right of abdomen; sometimes there is tiny very slight pulls on the left side that last for about 1-2 minutes and these occurred from lifting boys up to basketball hoop - wants to know whether stomach bug can cause these problems. Yes, stomach bug can cause such symptoms as you have described so well. There may be a bacterial infection too, hence I would advise you the following: Get the stools and blood tested immediately as it gives clues as to whether this is bacterial or viral. Most of the treatment remains same and as follows: Hydration and electrolyte balance. Antispasmodic. Antibiotic and metronidazole Activated charcoal and probiotics. Any further treatment oral or intra-venous as needed.
