I have had diarrhea for 3 1/2 days and vomiting 1 day. I do not have a fever. I have pain in my hips down through the thighs and calf. I have been drinking electrolyte powder mixed with water. I ve had 1 small bowl of chicken soup and a croissant in this time. The pain in my hips and legs prevent me from sleeping. I am 79 years old. I take B12 1200 mcg. but have not had any meds for the last 4 days. Thank you, Pamela
Hello, 1) Since when you are taking Tab. Vitamin B-12? In some persons, this vitamin supplementation tablet cause loose stool. 2) If you have developed symptoms are eating some particular food then it might be due to non-specific intestinal infection from unhygienic, partially prepared food. 3) For doubtful intestinal infection, you should do stool examination (routine and culture) and specific antibiotics should be started based on stool report, if required. 4) Yes, you must continue to drink water mixed with electrolyte powder. Also, you can take anti-motility group of medication to reduce frequency of stool if it is >7-8 per day. 5) Hip and leg pain is due to depletion of fluid level in body from diarrhea and vomiting (dehydration). You can take anti-inflammatory group of medicine for this symptoms. Also you must drink ORS powder mixed water minimum 3 lit per day.
