What Is The Treatment For Constipation Issues With Pain And Bleeding?
I have always had constipation issues. In college they led to hemorrhoid issues. I do not have consistent bowel movements and eat a diet of fruits, green vegetables, grains and beans/lentils. I drink water through out the day. My bowel movements, when they come, are type 2 (sausage shaped but lumpy) or type 1 (pellets) then I will have a great bulky stool but it is very large and painful with bleeding. Stool softeners seem not to help. I am tired of going through the cycle of pain and discomfort. Is this just a fiber intake issue or more?
Hello It sounds like you have modified your diet and already increased fluid intake, which is great. Remember to avoid coffee, carbonated drinks, alcohol, and processed foods such as chips, cookies, white bread and rice which tend to cause constipation.
Do you take any medications which may cause constipation?
There is a condition called IBS(irritable bowel syndrome ) with constipation that can occur, and this may be the case. There are specific medications that can be prescribed for this condition such as Linzess or Amitiza. These medications are usually tried when laxatives and stool softeners have not worked. A medication available over the counter is called Miralax which may help. Best regards
