What Is The Treatment For Clots In Portal And Splenic Vein?

Healthy 26 year old diagnosed with total obstruction from clots in portal vein, splenic vein, and right portion of portal vein in liver. All these thus far normal. Have been placed on Coumidin and Injectable Heparin. Concerned about long-term prospects for daughter and whether we should be looking at more aggressive response or consulting other specialists.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and thanks you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein and I will try to help you as much as I can with my answer.
I need to admit that It is very unusual that portal vein is thrombosised in such young patient without underlying disease of the liver or spleen. So the right cause of it should be investigated and then treatment can be planned. In most cases it can be treated with heparin and surgery is only rarely indicated.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
