What Is The Treatment For Chest Infection?

i recently went on an abroad trip and picked up a chest infection. I have had it for 3 weeks and it is still producing phlegm which is a yellowish colour however it is not as much as it used to be. I have a history of smoking but i quite about a year and a half ago but I have had the odd one on a night out. Should I see my GP. I have had chest infections since giving up but they have always cleared up before now

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for your query.
Frequent sputum production in a ex-smoker as you have quit smoking one and half years ago is always alerting us, the pulmonologist, to exclude chronic obstructive lung disease for which you need to undergo a spirometric evaluation of lung condition along with a chest x-ray to exclude other diagnosis for this chronic cough. You need to consult your GP soon and get yourself thoroughly examined.
Thank you.
Regards
Dr Arnab Maji
