What Is The Treatment For Breast Cancer?

Hi, my mum has been diagnosed with IBC ( breast cancer) here in the UK..she had her first dose of Chemo last wednesday & has been told to expect bad side effects but as of now, she's not had any. Will it get worse with each dose and also I'm 37, is it worth me mentioning to my GP about my mums diagnosis? Thanks in advance :-)

Hello
First of all I am sorry to hear of your mother's diagnosis of breast cancer. If it has been several days after her chemotherapy and she feels fine, she will likely not experience side effects (more common being fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite) at least this time. Each time she receives the chemo she may have an effect.
You do not mention which medications she receives for chemotherapy, and each medication has a specific set of side effects. There are some agents which can lead to peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness in legs and arms), cardiomyopathy(enlarged heart),and hair loss in the long term.
In terms of your own health, do mention your mother's diagnosis to you GP as some cancers tend to be herediatary; your GP will be able to counsel you on the best screening tests you need.
Best regards
