What Is The Treatment For A Red Area In The Arm Pit?

Yes my husband has a red raised hard area under his right arm pit that is painful. It is approximately 2 inches in length 1inch in width and the depth is about an inch under the reddened area. The red area is not nearly that large on surface the redness is it is about 3/4 of an inch round. He has had it for 2 weeks and it is growing larger. Yesterday it did open up and seep a little yellow pus and tinged pink on the right side of the opening if pushed a little more pus will come out but then it stops draining. What is this and can we treat it at home?

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Seems to me like a case of Boil/Furuncle.

Boil Or Furuncle is bacterial infection of the skin and soft tissue. The best way to approach is to start on an empirical oral antibiotic for a week OR 10 days (My choice of oral antibiotic would have been Amoxycillin 500mg in combination with clavulanic acid 125 mg, thrice daily, for a week OR Cephalexin 500ng thrice daily OR Cefadroxil 500mg twice daily, for a week). This would take care of the infection.

An OTC antibacterial cream/ointment e.g 2% mupirocin can be applied twice daily.

An OTC pain killer e.g ibuprofen once or twice daily would help you deal with the pain.

If the lesion does'nt resolve on antibiotics and keeps enlarging, then it may require to incise it, to let the pus drain.

regards
