What Is The Solution For Depression, Loss Of Motivation, Crying After Taking Budenozide Prescribed For Crohn's Disease?

My daughter just finished a 3month long therapy with budezonide to treat a flare up of chron's disease. the symptoms of chron's disease disappeared during the first week of treatment, however she continued taking it under her doctor's instruction. For the last month she has been very tired, could not sleep well, feeling depressed, feeling stressed, lost motivation, crying without a reason and these symptoms does not alleviate(she has been off budezonide for just 2 days) How long does these side effect usually last ? She is a postgraduate student and this condition seriously affects her academic performance which makes her even more depressed.Thank you very much for your answer

Greetings !

Well it seems like she has developed medical condition induced depression owing to her long illness. It does not seem likely that she will recuperate on her own from her depression and will actually need help of a drug or counseling/ therapy or both. So i suggest that in order to bring her out of depression you ask her doctor to start her on a low dose of anti depressant like duloxetine at a dose of 20 mg taken at night after dinner, this will enable her to sleep better and also meanwhile improve her symptoms of depression. After the initial dosing of 20 mg for 2 weeks her dose can be raised to 30 mg at night. This shall be continued for a month before deciding to further up the dose to 40 mg. The total duration of treatment shall last between 3-4 months at least.

If she is not compliant with drug intake for managing her depression then she can be taken to a clinical psychologist and started on CBT ( Cognitive Behavior Therapy) which is a special type of counseling technique that is often successful in dealing with depression.

I hope this helps.

Regards
