What Is The Soft Red Lump On My Gum?

Hi, I've just been to the dentist because I have a reddish soft lump on my front gum that sometimes has white stuff that comes out of it. It doesn't hurt and the tooth doesn't hurt. My dentist called it a name and said it was quite rare, and that he doesn't think it is anything to worry about, but he is referring me to the hospital to have it removed and assessed. Could you tell me what you think it might be and what would be involved in removing it.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query soft red lump on gum along with whitish discharge from it could be due to periodontal abscess which occurs due to food deposits on gums and due to that infection abscess develops on gums known as gum boil. Need not to worry about it. Secondly it could be irritational fibroma due to irritation to localized area. Visit periodontist once and go for quadrant scaling and root cleaning. Maintain proper oral hygiene. do brushing and flossing on daily basis along with antiseptic mouthwash. Gargle with Listerine mouth wash daily. If there will be pain antibiotics like Metronidazole and amoxicillin will help to suppress infection along with painkillers. Topical application of gum paint will provide relief.
