hi, i'm 58 and in mid january this year i suddenly felt sick.. when rushed to a doctor, i found out that my BP was very high. when i got a detailed blood test done, found out that my LDL cholestrol was 293.. since then i've brought a tremendous change in my eating and exercise habits and have lost 10kgs. i have followed cholestrol reducing diets but today when i got a second test done, the LDL was 345!!! it has INCREASED.. wat should i do???
If you could elaborate more on your eating habits and regular diet, it would have been easier to find out where you might be going wrong. Make sure you reduce your fat intake as it increases bad cholesterol. Cut down on your intake of fats and oil used for cooking. Fat from butter, ghee and fatty meats (if you are non-vegetarian) causes rise in cholesterol. Presuming that you are following a healthy low fat and high fibre diet with adequate physical activity (atleast 30 minutes of brisk walk for 5 times a week), your raised LDL cholesterol levels could be due to genetic reasons which are beyond your control. Consult a physician who may prescribe you appropriate cholesterol lowering drugs if diet and exercise alone have not been effective in reducing the levels. Make sure you continue to eat healthy and stay active even when you are on cholesterol lowering medications. Take care.
