Hello Since you are 86 years old and these symptoms are from last one month. You are having cough , phlegm. However there are so many diseases causing such symptoms , these include. 1 Bronchiectsis ( mild form if phlegm ( severe 150 mL/day). For confirmation of diagnosis get in sputum ( phlegm ) culture & smear for bacteria , mycobacteris & fungi. X ray chest also advised. 2 Bronchitis ( complicated or un complicated ) , diagnosis based on physical examination and clinical history of illness . 3 Asthmatic allergic bronchitis is another such cause . Whistling sound and breathlessness are characteristic features of this disease. When such type of patient visit my clinic I usually advise them to take Levofloxacin+azithromycin combination tablet one / day for 7- 10 day or till symptoms disappear. Some times I also recommend monteleukast+ bambuterol tablet once in the night for 10-15 days . Cough syrup containing terbutalin+ guiaphenesin+ ambroxol , twice or thrice in day.
