My husband is in excruciating pain. I believe it is his sciatic ......the pain is in his right hip and extends down his right leg. He had an MRI last week......showing deg. Disc disease........and not certain of any thing else......our family dr keeps prescribing pain meds, which he hates taking.........isn t there some sort of injection he could get to help with the pain?
Yes there are injections like steroids which can be injected into the spine which can relief for a few months together. You will need to contact an Anesthetist specialising in Pain management for the same. Other than that, there are analgesic patches which can be put on the skin and give relief from pain for 2-3 days as well as suppositories which can be put in the rectum and are very effective. Further, if the pain is too much and there is disc prolapse then Surgery can be entertained as an option as they do it by minimal access techniques nowadays, if the Neurosurgeon is experienced. Take care, Dr Rishi, India.
