What is the relation between abuse and adrenal dysfunction?

Can the constant stress of being subjected to frequent physical, psychological and sexual abuse (over a period of 7 years) lead to adrenal dysfunction? By constant stress I mean living on a perpetual adrenaline rush, always in fight or flight mode.
