What Is The Recovery Time For Gastritis, Esophagitis And Diverticulosis?

After feeling bloated and uncomfortable in upper abdomen for several months, I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Diagnosed with moderate gastritis, esophagitis and diverticulosis. I am a 57 year old female, 5 6 and weigh 140. I eat healthy, normally salads with tuna for lunch, breakfast oatmeal with almond milk or bran buds with almond milk and chicken with veggies for dinner, an occasional glass or two of wine. I take an ibuprofen maybe twice a week. I have been on nexium for 5 weeks now and have a lot of gas since I started taking the nexium. I never had acid reflux. Nexium does not seem to be helping much, but how long does it take to heal before I will notice a difference? I don t take supplements, vitamins bother my stomach. Any ideas?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
I can understand your concern for your symptoms.
1) You can take/continue supplement medicines.
2) Gastritis with esophagitis is due to acid reflux and Nexium is good medication to control acid reflux. I would recommend to continue it.
3) Most common cause for severe gastritis is H.Pylori infection in stomach which can be ruled out by specific blood test or by RUT test on biopsied tissue taken during endoscopy. If confirmed then you must take specific antibiotics for 14 days. IF either of tests for H.Pylori was not done in past then it is recommended for you to undergo repeat upper GI endoscopy with RUT test to confirm this infection.

Hope I answered your query. If you have any further doubts, i would be happy to help you.
Have a nice day!
