What Is The Reason For Sudden Growth In Weight After Being Diagnosed With Crohn S Disease, IBS?
Good evening Dr.?. I was diagnosed with Crohn s Disease 25 years ago. Had the colonoscopy and all the appropriate tests. I was put on Azulfadine & 40mg of Prednisone for 2 years, until I begged the Dr to wean me off the meds. So, I ve been suffering with chronic abdominal pains for 30 years. Now, I m told I have IBS and am taking Amitiza. Something, however, concerns me. Approximately 2 years ago, I blew up, LITERALLY! It happened in a short period of time, within 2 weeks. I was always a size 4 & was diagnosed with Anorexia because I have NO appetite. I DO NOT EAT because I have no appetite, but I do drink. Why did I blow up in such a short period of time and why SO MUCH WEIGHT? I m on Lasix for swollen legs, but I still look like Mrs. Potato Head! Can you help me?

Greetings of the day
The sudden increase in weight and blow up features is likely to be due to consumption of steroid. Steroid is known to cause excess deposition of fat especially in face, neck shoulder and trunk area.it typically gives rise to moon like face and buffalo hump giving the appearance of bloated look.
Slowly tapering the steroid and discontinuing them will be helpful to some extent.
