What Is The Reason For Leaving Metal Clip Behind After The Mammogram?
Hi, I was called in for a second mammo. At that visit they told me that there was a cluster of many pleomorphic microcalcifications , some with linear forms which are new since last years mamm. I am to have a biopsy in a few days. My question and concern is about a metal clip that they would like to leave behind....so as to mark the spot for other mammos. Never heard of such a thing. Please advise. Thanks
Hello and welcome to HCM, The mammography that you underwent detected a lesion. The lesion showed microcalcifications in the breast tissue. Microcalcifications are suspicious on mammography. The lesion has to be examined microscopically to look for any malignant change in the tissue. The site of biopsy has to be marked. This can be done by marking it with metal clips.
