What Is The Reason For Irregular Mensuration When On Depo Provera ?
I recently just got back on Depo Provera on October 23rd. My cycle in September lasted only two days with spotting afterwards. Multiple negative pregnancy tests, including two seperate urine tests at two different doctors office. I am sexually active, but am married and have been tested for STD s. In October my cycle was from the 23rd-28th. Then two weeks later, my period started again on November 13th-14th. I have been noticing in my discharge bright red blood. I am very unsure of what this could be from and am very worried. I will be going to my regular OB/GYN on Monday if they can fit me in. Any suggestions on what this may be would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Depo Provera is slow release Progesterone preparation. It is known to cause break through bleeding due to unstable levels of Progesterone. The so called 'repeat menses' after 15 days of regular menses is due to this breakthrough bleeding as a side effect of Progesterone.
If such bleeding is causing you regular disturbance, you may switch over to some other type of contraception.
Please visit your Gynaecologist and take his/her opinion about shifting to some other contraceptive method.
I hope this helps you.
