What Is The Prognosis Of Emphysema?
my aunty has emphasemia, she struggles to breathe and is now suffering with swollen ankles and feet. She eats very little, hardly sleeps and is very under weight. She is now 67 years old. My question is, i understand that the swelling is caused from heart failure of the one side of the heart, but that means only half of her heart is working...does this mean she is in her final stages?

may be no sister.emphasemia is a lung disease not a cardiac disease. In normally blood flows from right heart >lung>left heart in this direction flows.but in emphasemia right side of heart has to pump with higer pressure.in a long duration of emphasemia right atria,rt venticals dilate. due to back pressue pedal odema,increased jvp occurs. for this pt oxygen therapy is needed. thank u
