What Is The Prognosis Of Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer?

My friend, age 69, was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer in March, 2009. She has been on different kinds of chemo since then but has been getting vrey tired and her strength is waning. Doctor just took her off chemo and she is to have a PET scan this week. Any idea - realistically - how long she might have?

welcome to Health care magic.
1.Prognosis is poor for sure.
2.But one can not give the exact survival time, many studies says on and average of 5 years. Some more and some less - depends on ones immunity level and underlying medical condition.
3.Keep monitoring the changes and followup.
4.Things should be fine. Hope it helps you.

Anything to ask ? do not hesitate. Thank you.

Oncologist, Surgical Dr. R. Sivaprakash's  Response
ovarian cancer stage IV implies spread to distant organs. usually ovarian cancer spreads with in the abdomen surface over peritoneum. remission and recurrences common. needs multiple cytoreductive surgeries and chemotherapies whenever tumour recurs. prognosis and survival depends on age, performance status of patient, ca-125 levels, grade of tumour, completeness of previous surgeries if any, response to chemo and sites of involvement. if you can mail me these particulars along with petct report i might be able to tell u exactly wt next and wt to expect. mailid: sivaprakash80@gmail.com
