What Is The Meaning Of The MRI Result Of Lower Lumbar?

I went for an MRI of my lower lumbar and the results were mailed to me and there was a finding that stated There is a 2.9 cm T2 hyperintense left adnexal structure which likely relates to the ovary. What does that mean. Could u please answer that because I am very worried.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

A T2 hyperintense signal measuring 2.9 cm is most likely a simple cyst in the left ovary. It is important to know if you ever experience pain in left lower abdomen. I suggest you get an ultrasound scan of the pelvis done and discuss findings with your doctor. There is no need to worry.
