What Is The Meaning Of Having Ketones In Urine Of A 7 Year Old Child?

Hi My 7 yr old son was found to have ketones in his urine. We did a repeat urine test again yesterday . What does that exactly mean. The dr mentioned depending on second sample he may have to have his blood sugar tested. My son has been fevering on and off the last 3 days and the dr said it was a viral infection. Could a viral infection be the reason why or could it mean that my son has type 1 diabetes.

Thanks you
