What Is The Lump Above My Ankle After I Got Kicked?

Three weeks ago I sprained my right ankle after being kicked while playing soccer. I continued to walk on it because it wasn't too painful but it continues to be slightly swollen if I don't wrap it during the day. There is no visible bruising right now but it feels bruised on the interior of my ankle around the ankle bone. Two inches above my ankle is a large lump that hurts if it is touched. What could the lump be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

This lump is most likely a hematoma. Due to recent injury, veins were ruptured so the blood has appeared in the soft tissues. Hematoma if its large, can not be left alone as it may become infected. That is why it is necessary to show it to a surgeon.
Hematoma should be drained. In case of any doubts an ultrasound should be done.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
