Hi,
What is your age?
If the mirena strings are not visible, since in your case the the ultrasound showed it to be in correct position, they are probably coiled inside the cervix or lower part of uterus. Do repeat an ultrasound after six months to make sure the coil is in correct place.
After one year get it removed and have a new one inserted. Mirena is licensed for
contraceptive use for five years. There is no reason for this procedure to be done under
general anaesthesia. If I were your doctor I would first try removing the coil in out patient clinic using long
artery foreceps. If I fail to remove it , then I would do it under general anaesthesia.
Sometimes Mirena coil itself causes spotting.
Is the
pelvic pain severe? Do you have excessive vaginal discharge/foul smelling discharge etc. Then it suggests
pelvic infection and needs investigations and treatment. Are you regular with your pap smears. If you have not had do have one now.
If your doctor suspects
ovarian cyst, get a
transvaginal ultrasound done NOW to be certain about it. If cyst is present based on the size and appearance it will need investigations and treatment
