What Is The Fastest Way To Lose Pregnancy Related Weight?

I had my kidney removed 2 weeks ago, stayed in hospital post surgery for a week and I am home 8 days. I started to walk gradually once I came home but for the last 2 days I have got dizzy when out walking. The distance I walked this morning is less than the distance I walked on Saturday and Sunday. I am only talking about distances of 400m this morning. Why am I only getting dizzy now

Welcome Dear,
Be patient. Fast and safe weight loss is tricky. When you left the hospital were your electrolytes normal? I am thinking that your blood pressure might be off or your sodium, potassium and other electrolytes might be off.

Getting dizzy makes you a fall risk while out walking. Therefore, for safety reasons, take someone with you on your walks. If you were my patient I would be checking blood pressures throughout the day.

If I had your labs I could see how your remaining kidney is handling protein and waste. Are you drinking enough fluid (8 glasses/day), eating a balanced diet with moderate (not high) protein intake? One thing you may try is taking something to drink with you on your walk and when you start getting dizzy, find a place and sit down and sip on a healthy beverage, perhaps 1/2 cup juice with no added sugar. If dizzy and feeling like falling, sit down where you are and put your head below your knees and when things subside very gradually get up and call your doctor.

Dizziness can be caused by your medications or anemia, both of which need evaluation by your treating physician drawing your labs. I will assure you that dizziness is experienced by a great number of patients who have a kidney removed. And, everyone gets worried.

So, for weight loss if you are recovering from surgery, it is not recommended until significant healing has taken place or it may negatively affect healing slowing it down. You can, however, start eating fresh fruit/soft vegetables, low saturated fat diet, high fiber carbohydrates with no added sugar (read labels). Eat only lean protein without skin, baked/broiled/steamed (fish, white meat of chicken/turkey, tuna ). Use olive oil instead of salad dressing. Cut down on polyunsaturated fats like regular cooking oil, margarine, read labels. Small frequent meals may be better with protein mostly in am and nothing before bed up to 3 hours before laying down.

As soon as the dizziness subsides, you can start a real exercise routine to lose your weight. For now, I think "Sit Fit" exercises might be better for you where you are sitting safely in a chair watching a video with exercises done all in a chair!

I am available for a full consult if you send me directly your labs, blood pressure, history, weight, height, age, pregnancy history (did you breastfeed, how old is baby, are you thinking of having more children?)
I see this question posted as weight loss after pregnancy but see nothing in your question about pregnancy.

I hope this answers your question the best I can with limited information. I have a clinic here at HMC where you can ask a detailed query and I can answer with up to 3 follow-up questions. You can reach me at https://www.bit.ly/askkathyshattler.
