What Is The Effect Of Elevated Gamma GT?

Hi! I am 54 years old female, 5 tall, 125 lbs. I had lumpectomy last year and 16 sessions of radiation. Fatigue has been my biggest issue but I tried to go back on a gradual return to work but had to stop end of August. I am on tamoxifen for the past year. My Gamma GT last August was92 and ALT was 111. Two days ago, my Gamma GT was 77 and ALT 94 and alkaline phosphatase is 68 which is within the range. I didn t tell my GP but I stopped taking Tamoxifen after I found out last August that my Gamma GT is elevated. May I know your thoughts about this? Thanks.

Thanks for posting this question on HCM!
I really appreciate your concern for raised GGT.
An elevation of gamma-glutamyltransferase - an index of liver disease, it is elevated in liver disease alcoholic cirrhosis or individuals who are heavy drinkers.
It is also raised in patients with breast cancer due to release of the membrane bound constituents from different tissues even in carcinoma.
Tamoxifen is used to prevention of breast cancer, as it is known to suppress the growth of breast tissue which are hormone (estrogen) dependent.
It is known to cause fibroids in the uterus, thrombus formation in the veins, hot flushes, etc.
As such there is no relation between raised GGT and the use of Tamoxifen.
You are advised to consult your doctor for the evaluation of fatigue and its management.
Best regards!
