What Is The Duration Of Treatment For 'hashimoto Thyroiditis'?
Hello doctor, I am sangeetha of age 24. the region near my throat is somewhat bulged. I have been taking treatment for thyroid for almost 3 years. It is reported as "Hashimoto thyroiditis". I am taking tablet "thyronorm 100mg". But still the neck region is not normal. How long am I supposed to continue my tablets. sometimes i dont have hope and i stop my tablets for some days.
I have gone carefully through your query and understood your concern. Hashimoto thyroiditis is a chronic autoimmune disease. The destruction of the thyroid gland done by the autoimmune process is chronic and irreversible, so the treatment is long life. You should not try to stop it. The need for levothyroxine fluctuates a lot during the life, that is why a TSH level is suggested to be controlled every 6 months.
Hope the information will help. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Dr. Mirjeta
