What Is The Difference Between Eliquis And Aspirin?
I was diagnosed with A Fib a few months ago. I was taking aspirin to thin my blood before the diagnosis. I have arthritis. I was prescribed predaxa. It bothered my stomach, so I was switched to eliquis. Can I safely take 1 eliquis and aspirin? How is eliquis different than a blood thinner, like aspirin?

Both these medications work as " blood thinners" and are given to patients suffering from Atrial fibrillation to prevent blood clot formation or to treat an existing blood clot and hence to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism.
However, they differ in their mechanisms of action.
1. Eliquis (Apixaban) is an anticlotting drug which acts by inhibiting Factor Xa that inhibits platelet activation and thus prevent clot formation. It is more potent than Aspirin in preventing clot formation.
2. Aspirin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) is also an antiplatelet medication but it acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzyme. Which in turn inhibits platelet generation of thromboxane A2, resulting in an antiplatelet effect.
3. Taking Eliquis along with Aspirin may increase the risk of bleeding, including severe and sometimes fatal hemorrhage causing brain hemorrhage, red or black, tarry stools; coughing up or vomiting fresh or dried blood that looks like coffee grounds, etc.
