Hi, I have gone through your question. Adequate follicular size is 18-20 mm for the ovulation to occur. The follicle should be clear with no internal echoes. Your doctor is right in her/ his counselling. They hCG injection which is given for follicular rupture is given when the follicle is approximately18-20 mm of size. You can wait for the 17 th day study and see if the follicle is growing in size.
If the follicle doesn't reach 18 mm size and the internal echoes remain, then I would suggest you to repeat ultrasound after 2 weeks to assess the size and nature of follicle. echoes can be a little haemorrhage only, which can be resolved with time.
If echoes are still there, then do get further investigations to rule out any other pathology.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
