< br>When the baby drinks milk it has to pass through a food pipe or esophagus
entering the stomach which is connected to it with a sphincter. In newborn and infants this ring like sphincter between esophagus and stomach may not be very strong or is lax causing reflux of stomach contents up into esophagus. This is called Gastroesophageal reflux disease
.This happens involuntarily after feeds or during
burping due to ingested air and distended stomach. It usually resolves in few months as baby grows. If this persists for more than the months or is severe enough to cause weight loss
or failure to gain wt then please consult a pediatrician
for thorugh assessment and treatment of the same.
Meanwhile you should keep baby upright or reclined for half an hour after feeds, give him small frequent feeds, and burp regularly post feeds to avoid vomiting
