What is the cause of swelling near the throat ?

Hi, My husband is having a swelling near throat in an unusual place. Ultrasound and CT scans have been taken and nothing could be determined from it.Today needle biopsy was done to check if it was a tumour or cancer. He does not have any pain or any other symptoms . I am really worried and scared can someone please help me?

Needle biopsy will definitely a investigation of choice in your case to differentiate between cancer vs inflamation/infection or other case of swelling.
so if it is cancer then one should remember that this has been treated by either surgery/radiotherapy or upfront chemo followed by either surgery or RT.

Swelling in throat has many causes. Is it lymph node enlargement or it is thyroid swelling. We have to look for other lymph nodes in the body. Painless swelling gradually enlarging in size is a matter of concern. If your physician felt the necessity of FNAC it should be carried out. If this gives some clue, well otherwise a biopsy may be needed but without having the full details about the nature of the swelling it might be difficult to comment. Have faith in your physician and follow his advice.
