HelloThere, I am a 30 yo cauc fem on H Dialysis. I have had progressive ESRD since my late teens. I have been on dialysis for just a smidge over a year. I also have hyperparathyroidism, Lupus, Fibromyalgia and a handful of extra problems thrown in to boot. (Yup, the car looks good, but it s a bonefide lemon!) ;) Lately I have noticed that my beloved heating pad is making my skin itch quite badly. There doesn t seem to be any particular rhyme or reason ( I.e. intensity of heat, duration and/or application of session.) It was suggested that moist heat may help, so I heated a rice sock (I have no idea what s actually in it... Rice, barley, small martians...) with a small bowl of water in the microwave, but so far no change. - I do re-heat it after it has cooed and I have wiped up the microwave then hang it up so it doesn t get all mouldery-festery-ergot laiden whatever. Blech!) I am starting to get a little worried as heat is the only thing (apart from stretching) that has any positive effects on my Fibro and herniatd discs (w/ nerve impingement that I receive caudal epidural and nerve blocks for every 5 weeks.) I have done a lot of online research, however, most of the stuff about this is written and/or answered by Hippies - A lot of whom believe that it s due to electrical disturbances. chakra imbalances, food allergies, you name it, they blame it. The closest I ve found to some sort of evidence based medical-ish insight was a tiny blurb about nerves being overly sensitive, Is this the case? If so, is there any generally accepted how and why ? If that s not it, any ideas? Ideas for lessening the itching pain would be MUCHLY appreciated, but perhaps not so much as just knowing How and Why it happens, Thank you very kindly in advance. ~Sarah Brantford, Canada
