What Is The Cause Of Dry Flaky Skin On The Back Of The Neck And The Eyelids?

I'm actually trying to figure out what is going on with the symptoms my boyfriend is experiencing... He already knows he has sensitive skin. We use clear & free laundry products, as well as toiletries (at least his are) and we haven't changed anything recently. However he's developed very dry flaky skin on the back of his neck as well as his eyelids. I can see the skin is both areas is red, and seeing his eyes so irritated and flaky like that almost makes MY eyes itch. We've already tried several lotions with no luck in these symptoms resolving. He has had episodes of this a lot in the past but never lasting this long & usually during spring rather than fall. Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Since he has extreme dry skin over these areas, probably that is due to the fact that he is atopic/allergic. Atopic individuals have low water retentive capacity of the skin, which therefore can easily becomes dry, scaly and itches as well, specially during winters.

He should avoid using soaps. A gentle cleanser like cetaphil cleansing lotion would be ideal for him

I would suggest him to apply a good moisturizer e,g aloevera or glycerin containing moisturizer at least twice daily.

For the flaky patches over the face and back of neck, he could use a moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate cream, twice daily for a few days, over and above the moisturizer.

regards
