What Is The Cause Of Deafness In The Ear?

Hi my ear suddenly turn deaf one morning went to ear throat nose doctor gave me steroids and clareton but it s not working the echo clam down a little she said my ear was swollen from allergies , she suggested I get a hearing test than come back and see hear why would have to get a hearing test when I still have the problem. It s been 3 weeks now can you help me?

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have sudden hearing loss . Usually hearing loss occur gradually , but in your case hearing loss was sudden . It seems to me that the hearing loss in your case occur due to some secondary reason like infection ( ear infection or upper respiratory infection ) , trauma , blood circulation problem , neurological problem , allergy or due to some drugs . I would suggest you to undergo test asked by your doctor . Because hearing test called pure tone audiometry is use to determine if the hearing loss is caused by sound not reaching the inner ear or by a sensorineural deficit (because the ear isn’t processing the sound that reaches it). Doctor may prescribed anti inflammatory drugs along with steroid ( as you mention in query ) and intratympanic corticosteroid therapy .
