Hi.. Consolidation is a condition that results when the walls of the lung cells (alveoli) becomes firm and hard with fluid accumulation within it. It occurs due to inflammatory changes. Most commonly occuring in pnemonia and other infection.. This changes of the alveoli results in difficulty in breathing and it produces a different sound called as crepitations. Crepitation is heard on auscultation (by stethescope) of the the lung
