Hello my name is kaylee and I'm 19 years of age sometimes my heart will stop and do this big beat for second and then start beating normal again what causes that? And some days I'll be perfectly fine and then I'll get these dizzy spells every once in a while and it freaks me out cause I don't know what's causing it.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Dear madam
Thanks for your query.
The episodes are likely to be premature contractions which are common in normal population and mostly are asymptomatic. Since you have symptoms and dizzy spells too, you should get investigated. Basic investigations include ECG and cardiac ultrasound. If episodes occur at least once in a day, 24 hour holter monitoring will help ascertaining the heart rhythm.
Overall prognosis is good in patients with normal cardiac ultrasound and premature contractions.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder
