What Is The Cause Of A TPHA Blood Test?

I suffered a retinal hemorrhage in my left eye today. I am currently under the care of a pulmanologist since Mar for a severe lung infection/inflammation that lead to several blood clots. The opthamologist that treated me today ordered several blood tests and I see that one is a TPHA. In researching this I see this is for the diagnosis of syphilis. Why would she have ordered this?

Hi!
Welcome to HCM!
Your Ophthalmologist has written the test just to rule out syphilis,In cases of tertiary syphilis damage to the retina, nerves and blood vessels at the back of the eye can occur. If left untreated, irreversible eye damage may result in blindness and this can happen many years after the original infection. So nothing to worry its just to rule out an important cause.Take care!
