What Is The Cause For Severe Burning In My Vaginal Area When Treated With OTC Yeast Infection Kit?

I am having severe burning in my vaginal area. It only happens at night. I've been medicating for a UTI but symptoms have increased. I then used a OTC yeast infection kit to treat what I thought might be a yeast infection however immediately after applying the medication I had burning really bad. What else could I do.?

Hi,

Apart yeast infection, the severe burning in your vagina could be related to:

- intestinal parasitic infection which might migrate from anus to vagina
- allergy due to any new detergent or intimal cream/douche used
- dis-balance of the vaginal microbiota (possible bacterial infection)
- if sexually active, possible allergy to condoms

I suggest to :
- run a vaginal swab testing
- examination of stool for ova/parasites
- do abdominal ultrasound

Meanwhile, if you apply the anti-yeast cream locally and it will burn more, I'd advise to stop using it and run the above mentioned tests.

I also advise to:
- apply cold compresses/Greek yogurt locally
- do use hypoallergic vaginal douche/cream
- insert lactobacilli ovules in the vagina

Hope it was of help!
