What Is The Cause For Hearing Loss In Right Ear After Septorhinoplasty Though Hearing Test Results Were Normal?

2 and a half months ago i had a septo-rhinoplasty.
A month ago i was starting to feel gradual hearing loss in my right ear.
I visited a doctor and got myself an hearing test.. the results were fine but the test has been done on both of my ears together (and not seperately in order to if there is a slight difference in the hearing on both ears).
Is it possible that some airflow has been reduced to my right ear as a result of my septoplasy?

hello and welcome to health care magic,

I am Dr Sriram Nathan an ENT surgeon and I will try to help you out with your problem.

You mentioned that you have a hearing loss following a nose surgery. Theoretically any type of hearing loss can happen after any surgery but the more common cause would be just an effusion which am sure will get better in a couple of weeks. In many cases it may be just an Eustachian tube block or dysfunction or a mild cold. Rarer causes like sensorineural hearing loss are just that; rare. A nose surgery thus has no direct relation to the hearing. So do not worry and I am sure you will definitely get better.

You may however try these to speed up the process:
-In my patients with effusion, I would usually recommend this maneuver. Swallow after against a closed nose!
-steam inhalation with menthol or any other vaporiser at least three times in a day for a week or so
-if you have respiratory infection, you must take the proper medication for the control of the same in consultation with your doctor. You remember to complete the full course.
-take a course of antihistamine like levocetrizine. Your doctor will know about this

If these do not help then you must wait for a week or two and get an pure tone audiometry along with impedance audiometry and get back to me or any ENT with the report so that I can help you out better.

Hope this helps

regards

Dr Sriram Nathan
